Tips to be a Great Avon Mentor & Upline Leader

1. Know her Personal Goals

Your first Role as a Great Avon Mentor & Upline Leader is to know your team member’s goals. She may actually need help identifying what those goals are, especially if she’s a New Representative. Help her learn how to set a goal for her network marketing business with Avon by asking her something like, “How much do you need to earn this month to make this worth it?” If you know how much she wants to earn, you’ll be help her determine how much she needs to sell. If you can help her earn as much money as she needs to earn to make this worth it — why would she ever leave Avon??

2. Teach & Train

You should always be learning new skills & new strategies, about new products and company updates that so you can relay this information to your team. A great Avon mentor & upline leader is always learning & always teaching. Here at Avon we have an amazing resource with our Learning & Development Team. But the truth is… you as the leader have the biggest influence over your team because they are connected to you. So influence them to take the training, then reinforce the information they are learning, and help them strategize to take action.

3. Support Efforts

Where there is EFFORT — there should be SUPPORT! We all know you can’t want it more for them than they want it for themselves which is why it’s so important to support effort, when you do see it. Maybe your new rep is starting an Avon blog, or a YouTube channel. Maybe it’s an event or an Avon fundraiser. Be their biggest cheerleader and support & share however you can.

4. Communicate Effectively

Meet people where they are and communicate all the ways at your disposal because everyone prefers different things. So e-mail, phone calls, texting, and of course a Facebook group just for your team. Creating a safe & reliable place for your team to get information, learn, collaborate, network, and communicate with your back & forth is crucial to building relationships with your team.

Make sure WHAT you are communicating to your team is beneficial to THEM! I know it’s tempting to push your own goals & agenda on your team… but DON’T. This is selfish and your team will see right through you. Many time your team’s individual goals don’t align with your own. Learn to be ok with that. Focus on serving your team and I promise – the success will come the right way in the right timing. So before you reach out, think to yourself, am I providing a resource? Is this helping them?

5. Sisterhood

I hope you know by now, this is a relationship business! And this is truly the sisterhood they never knew they were missing. The ability to build these key relationships with your team begins with you, the Leader.

Make everyone feel involved. Learn their strengths. Allow them to contribute as well as learn!

6. Hip Time

Think about toting a toddler around on your hip! It’s literally the analogy! Whether or not you are local and in person or nationwide & virtual… Hip Time means BEING THERE. Maybe it’s a vendor show, a launch party, a customer group, a fundraising event, a Breast Cancer walk… Just be there! Be there to for the training, for the effort. Be there to walk her through it, be her biggest cheerleader, be the supporting role. Just be there. She will listen as you talk to people, learn what you say and what you do!

7. Genuine Recognition

Recognize efforts in a genuine way. Big achievements and small achievements alike – that first order, the milestone, the sales achievement, title advancement, and Yes, even the dream destination trips! But know what strengths she leaned into to accomplish that goal. Make it personal, Make it count, and Make do it as often as possible.

8. Lead by Example

Don’t just Talk the Talk – be sure to Walk the Walk!!! How can you ask your team to do something you’re not doing yourself. Portray your success to your team through social media and other communications and position yourself as the leader they need from you. Give them a reason to want to follow your lead. Here’s another reason you should always be learning. I strive to be better for my team than I was the day before!

9. Push them to be Better than You Are

Isn’t that we want for our kids? To be better than we are, to have more, to achieve more? It’s what I want for my team as well! To do it faster, do it better than I was ever able to! You know your teams strength. You should be pushing them to be the best version of themselves. To push them out of their comfort zone and do things they’ve never done before so they have something they’ve never had before. Empower them to lean into their strength’s with your support! We learned that different is better than better. But we all have a little better inside of ourselves. Sometimes we just need someone to believe that we CAN do better.

10. Inspire

You Role is to Inspire! Be the inspiration you wish you had when you first started with Avon. Help her see the potential future of a successful Avon Rep by watching you. Bring out the Best in Her! And I promise – when you help run a successful Avon business — you will be successful too!
